Victor Herbert's Toyland

Length: 52 min.

Age Recommendation/Content: All ages

Release: 2025

Synopsis:

In addition to producing film and streaming content, YC produces original Christian theatre presentations in Dallas, Texas. This is a "Live Performance Film" capturing one of our annual Christmas productions, filmed throughout a weekend of performances (that's why the audience changes depending on the camera angle).

YC Theatre is an immersive, interactive experience, but YC Web viewers now have an opportunity to take a peek at the theatre side of You Connection (featuring the same cast members who populate YC Web films). This is a YC and Gospel reboot of Victor Herbert's classic operetta Babes in Toyland, set in the world of Mother Goose and presenting an allegory and social commentary of Christmas, past and present.

Trivia and Hidden Extras

Victor Herbert was an American composer in the late 1800s to early 20th Century, developing works such as Naughty Marietta, The Red Mill, and of course, Babes in Toyland, an operetta first performed in 1903. Like Gilbert and Sullivan, Herbert was a forerunner in modern musical theatre, paving the way for songwriters like Rodgers and Hammerstein and Andrew Lloyd Webber- taking live theatre away from its Victorian, opera-style format and into a format that can be embraced by a mass audience.
